The word as music and the work becoming music
An analysis of two vocal scores premiered at the weekly musicale of Siena in 1969. Vogel’s score gives the words their own musical value in akind of choral Sprechgesang, while in Lupi’s composition the music is derived from the words and yet retains its own meaning. Both composers strive for a free style, restricted neither to tonality nor atonality, and a non-dogmatic new musical reality.
