The Sonata accademiche by Francesco M. Veracini
A discussion of Veracini’s Sonate accademiche, op. 2 for violin and continuo. Like his op. 3, Il trionfo della pratica musicale, Sonate accademiche was written ca. 1744 and assigns an important role to polyphony. In his op. 2 the composer found personal expression in respect to form, harmony, and thematic material. Furthermore, the piece illustrates well the differences in style between Veracini’s music and galant music.
