The cantatas, op. 1, by Francesco Gasparini

Gasparini reveals himself to be a progressive composer. The structural and stylistic simplicity so characteristic of the cantatas of the Neopolitan school is already apparent. The recitatives maintain interest and the arias are elegantly melodic. The harpsichord part is fully realized in some arias and there is already (1695) a systematic use of the Alberti bass.
