Dramaturgical questions in Stradella’s theatrical works
A case study of the distribution and development of the dramatic text. The progression from Nicolò Minato’s Il Seleuco to Stradella’s La forza dell’amor paterno and from Minato’s Il Mutio Scevola to Stradella’s Le gare dell’amore eroico demonstrate changes in taste between the repertoire of the Venetian theaters and Stradella’s use of the same texts outside Venice. Stradella’s Il Corispero and Il moro per amore, on texts by Flavio Orsini, are also considered.
