Cherubini’s revolutionary compositions

 In dealing with works Cherubini wrote during various stages of the French Revolution (up to 1798), the author discusses and compares the Hymne au Panthéon (1794) and the Hymne funèbre sur la mort du Général Hoche (1797) – both drawn from a text by Marie-Joseph Chénier, Le chant républicain du dix août – and others, pointing out their similar musical characteristics and popular tone.
