Celebration in honor of Bara and Viala. Burial rites and myth in David’s project
Reviews the celebratory project (never realized) presented to the national convention by Jacques-Louis David to pay honor to martyrs of the French Revolution, the young anti-monarchists Bara and Viala. Particular attention is given to the commemorative use of music during the processions and to the ideological connections of the project with some clichés emerging during the period of Fascism in Italy.
