La confederazione dei Sabini con Roma: Luigi Boccherini’s contribution to the Tasche of Lucca

In April 1764 Boccherini received an appointment in Lucca, where he composed the cantata La confederazione dei Sabini con Roma (1765) for celebrations of the local election feast called Tasche. The MS of the cantata, from the collection of Antonio Bottini, was donated to the Istituto Musicale L. Boccherini, Lucca, in 1933. This MS has a dedication ‘al Sig[no]re Giuseppe Romaggi Celeberrimo Professore di Musica’. The context in which the cantata was written is discussed and its music is analyzed.
